Project NEED-PPE enables you to realize a supply chain producing 750,000 filter half masks (FFP2) per day, fulfilling the demands of EN 149 and Europeans standards in a production model that can also be used for the production of surgical gown.
Cross-Sector Cooperation for the Common Good: #FIGHTCOVID19 involved the quick response of the creation of FFP2 filtering half masks to protect against particles, in accordance with EN 149. This project committed to the set up of a European supply chain, to contribute to closing the supply gap during the current pandemic as swiftly as possible, while building up a national emergency supply for future pandemics able to produce 750,000 half masks per day. With a production capacity of 4.2 million masks per week from week 15, FIGHT COVID19 merged the expertise of 4 companies together across sectors, with 12 more being on-boarded during the scale up.

During the current Corona pandemic, it is in the everlasting interest of countries to have a faster production of personal protective equipment (PPE). Project NEED-PPE enables you to realize a supply chain producing 750,000 filter half masks (FFP2) per day, fulfilling the demands of EN 149 and Europeans standards in a production model that can also be used for the production of surgical gown.
The project includes setting up the supply chain from the production of the necessary filter medium produced on capital-intensive machines, up right up to the approved filter half mask according to FFP2 in European Standards. This falls into a long term business model to ensure that rational use of the investment is made. The consortium joined forces in an agile and interdisciplinary team of machine producers, plant designer, textile experts and production planers, utilising Gherzi's international network and drawing on over 90 years of experience.

Humble Bee aims to combat the global crisis of plastic pollution by replacing existing, unsustainable, synthetic plastics with their biomimetic inspired counterpart. In this endeavour, Humble Bee has identified a particular species of solitary bee whose nest-lining material features a novel protein, and are commissioning the drafting of a provisional patent on the novel protein-polymer. Following their research goals, the company hopes to take this revolutionary technology into distribution - targeting the textile market first and extending into other sectors soon after. Gherzi supports young researchers and exciting projects worldwide in the fields of fibers, chemistry, surface production, textile digitalization and other areas. Modern-day challenges faced by the textile industry strengthen developments in the areas of sustainability, circularity and the innovative digital business models of the future.
