During the current Corona pandemic, the rising demand for PPE in the counties cannot be fulfilled in an appropriate way.
Consequently, it is in the everlasting interest of the countries for pandemic cases to have a faster production of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Therefore, we propose project NEED-PPE, which will realize a value chain to produce 750,000 filter half masks (FFP2) per day fulfilling demands of EN 149 and Europeans standards.
EUROPE, WE HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER!
Establishment of a production process for FFP2
filtering half masks in accordance with EN 149

Approval and labelling according to the specifications
of the German Federal Ministry of Health

National and EU value network in the model
"Outward processing" (OP)

Customers include the authorities specified in the pandemic
plans of the Federal and Länder governments, and the EU

Long-term operator model as R&D centre and
national emergency reserve production facility

Problem

The production of FFP2 protective masks has three challenges:
Procurement
of the appropriate material
1
High-volume production of the masks
2
Coordination including
processing and distribution

Solution

The project includes setting up supply chain from the production of the necessary filter medium up the approved filter half mask according to FFP2 in European Standards.
The consortium joins forces in an agile and interdisciplinary team of machine producers, plant designer, textile experts and production planers.
Tested and approved by DEKRA according to specification EN149

CERTIFICATION

Together we develop a filtering half mask that meets the requirements of European standards.
The focus is on the selection of suitable materials and the correct structure of the  mask.
We can also implement innovations and new functions such as reusability for FFP2 masks
or an eco-design for sustainability. With an external partner, who acts as lead auditor and
accompanies the certification process, valuable time can be saved.
Set-up as SMMS
Melt blown: PP 20 g/m², electrostatically charged with correspondingly set air permeability
Spun bond non-woven fabric: PP 30 g/m², with correspondingly set air permeability
No valve necessary
Aluminium strip for fixation on the nose and securing the structure while breathing
Two elastic bands for fixation on the head
